How NFC Business Cards Work (No App, One Tap) — Explained Simply
NFC business cards feel like magic the first time you use one — you tap a card on a phone and a full profile pops up, no app, no typing. But the technology is simple and reliable. Here's exactly how it works.
What is NFC?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication — the same short-range wireless technology behind Google Pay, Apple Pay and tap-to-pay cards. An NFC chip is a tiny, battery-free antenna embedded inside your card. When a phone comes within a few centimetres, the phone briefly powers the chip and reads the link stored on it.
What happens when someone taps your card
- You hold your card to the top-back of their phone.
- The phone reads the link on the chip (e.g.
taprio.in/yourname). - A notification appears — they tap it once.
- Your full profile opens in their browser: photo, number, WhatsApp, socials, website, UPI, location and more.
That's it. No app to install on either side, no account to create, no typing. Your contact can save your details or message you on WhatsApp in one tap.
"What if their phone doesn't have NFC?"
Every Taprio card also has a printed QR code. If a phone is older or has NFC switched off, they simply open the camera and scan the QR — the same profile opens. In practice, almost every phone works: NFC is supported on all modern Android phones and iPhone 7 and newer.
Why it beats a paper card
- Always up to date: change your number or title once, from your phone, and the same card shows your latest details. No reprinting.
- Nothing gets lost: your contact saves you instantly instead of typing your number into a keypad.
- You learn from it: a smart card can tell you how many people viewed your profile and saved your contact.
- It does more: share your UPI, catalogue, booking link and reviews — not just a phone number.
Is it secure?
Yes. The chip only stores a public link — the same one you'd happily print on a card. There's no personal data on the chip itself, and nothing is transmitted from the other person's phone. You control exactly what your profile shows and can change it anytime.

Do NFC cards need an app?
No. Tapping an NFC card opens your profile directly in the other person's browser — no app on either side.
Does an NFC card work on iPhone?
Yes, on iPhone 7 and newer. For any phone without NFC, the printed QR code does the same job.
Is the NFC chip rechargeable?
There's nothing to charge. The chip is powered wirelessly by the phone for the split second it's read.
